Listen to this!

Phone tapping might have created ruckus in the Parliament but what will you say to the people who talk so loud on the phone and that too in public places that you don’t need to eavesdrop on their conversation. A thin gentleman in a green shirt sat next to me while I was on my way home. He was talking on his cell …. Well, nothing unusual, given the fact that those who travel alone in Metro make good use of cell phone …. Either listen to songs or make conversations which they would normally avoid when they are in a company.
So the man in green shirt evoked no interest till he mentioned the words ‘accused’ and ‘witness.’ I stopped reading the magazine that I had purchased at Rajiv Chowk station (oh! how I hate calling it Rajiv Chowk, it is still CP for me) and leaned back. My eyes were on the pages but my ears and mind were diverted towards what he was saying. It appeared he was trying to convince the person on other side (of the phone obviously) to dispose as a witness. “If you disagree, you will be made the accused. That means going to jail. Remember he …(He took name of someone who appeared to be the mastermind of this whole case) will not get off the hook this time. Though he tried to bribe some CBI officials too, but that hasn’t worked so far. He might flaunt his contacts, but this time he cannot escape. He will face the jail…..” He continued to convince the other person (who seemed to be the junior worker of the mastermind) of the benefits of getting on the ‘right’ side. The conversation continued even as he got up to ‘deboard’. I looked at him and looked back at my magazine. I smiled at the irony. I was reading Outlook magazine’s expose on phone tapping by the government.
