Surprisingly it was quiet … well relatively quiet journey in the afternoon. No, the passengers hadn’t taken a vow to remain silent nor had Metro imposed a ban on talking inside the trains as they have done for eating, drinking, smoking and spitting. It was just that there were very few who were talking on phones, most of the aunties seemed to be least interested in gossip and surprisingly kids were sitting patiently with their parents, not even showing any the signs of breaking into loud wails as they usually do while traveling in the public transport. A comparatively uneventful afternoon …but one thing struck me as I crossed Barakhamba Road station. A woman sitting opposite to me asked if the next station was Pragati Maidan. I have replied to similar inquiries about the next stations or about train’s destination on various occasions but today a thought crossed my mind. Why don’t people apply their minds and trust their own senses instead of asking ask such silly questions? Silly because maps inside the train display the stations on the route and if you happen to ‘technically’ or ‘alphabetically’ challenged, there is a computerized announcement that announces the same. All you need to is just listen!
