Wailing kid and waiting gentleman

Leaving home after having lunch and having borne the hot mid-day sun, boarding the Metro is a welcome relief. Its cooler confines lull me into a slumber. Often I fight the temptation by engrossing myself into a book, but today I gave in. Two paragraphs of reading and my eyes are heavy. I cover them with my hand, close the book and try to shut my mind too. Only to be woken up by a woman taking a seat besides me. Actually it was her kid who did that job with his non-stop wailing. The hassled mother immediately handed him to her husband who was standing. Once in his father’s lap, the brat just shut up. But the damage was done. I was awake. A station or two passed. The quite brat landed back in his mother’s lap. Before he could start again, she made him sit between us. He kept staring at me, mumbling and grumbling something which I am sure even his parents would not have been able to figure out. After some time, he took fancy on my book and tried to flip its page. Thankfully, my stop came. The book remained safe.
Most of time the journey is boring as I am usually alone. Thankfully, today in company of colleagues, the journey back home seemed to take less time. Getting down from the train as I approached the gates to swipe my Metro card after, an elderly woman, who had already deposited her token, looked back and asked: “Is this Sector 10 station?” Isn’t it too late to ask, now that you have ‘deboarded’ (the Metro term for getting down from train) and even moved out of platform area? I was about to ask her this but stopped. Instead, I just said yes. She repeated her question. Where exactly do you have to go? This time asked her this. “Sector 10 only, I am just looking for main exit,” she said while standing right opposite the gate. I pointed it out to her. “Yes it is there and he is there too,” she remarked with a relief. Outside an elderly gentleman was waiting on a black Hero Honda bike.
